Another guest post from our friends over at 365 Kona!

We hopped on our bikes and explored 8 miles of roads and trails in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park for the first weekend that the new lookout to the Halema’uma’u Crater was open to the public. If you have not been to the park since the eruption in 2018, the whole crater looks totally different!
We take you to the new lookout off of Crater Rim Trail, which traverses the edge of Kilauea’s summit caldera from KÄ«lauea Overlook. We also take you along the Chain of Craters road to the OTHER side of the caldera and give you a look at the severely cracked road due to the recent eruption.

Bring jackets, as the wind and mist come up and the park sits at 4,000 feet.

If you go, check to see if the Volcano House is open. Because it was not when we were there, we had to go find food in Volcano Village and we got to a food mart 5 minutes before closing at 6 pm!

Here is more information about the park and what is open, what is closed and what you can do while you are there..beyond what our adventure shows you! https://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm
